PRS completes lengthy challenge

PRS Bushey Heath
PRS completes the longest length of in-place rehabilitation of a lead drinking water service pipe in the UK

Project:

  • High Road, Bushey Heath, London
  • 15 meter road crossing
  • Lead pipe had previously been replaced by the property owner
  • Affinity Water’s standard practice is to replace or rehabilitate their side
  • PRS was engaged as the road has multiple other utilities within it so moling was not an option
  • Open cut would have caused major disruptions in the area due to a cross roads controlled by 4-way lights that would have to be taken out of service and temporary traffic management put in place
  • Traditional pipe replacement methods would involve between 3 and 4 days of disruption
  • This type of project would also require major noticing with highways
  • Prior to work commencing the property had a 12 litre per minute flow rate

Results:

  • PRS completed the project with:
    • no highway excavation
    • no road closures
    • no traffic disruption
    • limited customer downtime
    • 2-hour return to service resin
    • One day for rehabilitation
  • Post customer flow rate 15+ litres per minute
  • Lead levels brought into compliance
